I have been unable to sleep for ages...both before and after this surgery.  It seems that I am not alone.  No medication works for me.  I feel like I am walking in marshmallows all the next day.  Lunesta worked one night but the next time it didn't.  Has anyone tried hypnosis?   I have an appointment Monday with a doctor of mental health (PHD) .  I have never tried to be hypnotised before.  Hope it helps me sleep?  I am getting desparate for some ZZZZZ's.

I have quite a bit of trouble sleeting....

oh..

SLEEP!

Sorry... I have such a simple mind and I live typos.... err... Love typos..

I really struggle with this... I have to switch to decaffenated coffee after noon or I will really struggle... Do you intake caffeine?

I still have trouble, with my new knee and sore feet and all that.... so what I do is take a couple of Tylenol PM's, a Benedryl, and some Nyquil... I literally knock myself out I guess... sometimes I don't need anything, other nights I can't sleep, or wake up a bazillion times even loaded up with all that stuff....

Never tried hypnosis.... would be intested in hearing how it goes for you...

Good luck....

Its obvious I'm sleep deprived.  Didn't even check for typos.  As soon as I hit submit I saw the error of ways.  Too little too late.  I have one Diet Dr. Pepper in the a.m.  in place of most people's morning coffee.  I then switch to caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper.  One Tylenol PM will not make me sleep but will make me feel groggy all the next day and I hate that feeling.  Benedryl doesn't work .  Haven't tried nyquil.  But if that works I'd just as soon have a cup of cocoa with a shot of butterscotch snapps.  All nyquil is is alcohol and I can think of tastier ways to get zonked.  Since I rarely drink I am a cheap date, half a glass of wine or one coffee drink and I'm gone.  I'll let you know how the hypnosis works if it does.

Because of so many pain issues, I have difficulty sleeping too. If I didn't have enough drugs in me, I probably wouldn't sleep either. I take 50 mg Elavil, Neurotin and then often a vicodin (this was before surgery) at night. I used to take trazadone but it quit working for me and I was switched to elavil instead. I tried Ambien, but without the antidepressant I got a little depressed and slightly suicidal (not totally ... I reasoned my way out of it). Have you seen a sleep doc? That helped me.

If the hypnosis doesn't work I guess a sleep doc is next.  I have not tried Ambien.

My Dr's office recommened Tylenol PM or Benadryl.   I take the Tylenol PM, but only 1. Two of them makes me dream too much and sleep really weird.  But then sometimes with just the 1, I still can't sleep.  I have my nights where I wake up between 1 and 2 o'clock and can't get back to sleep until right before the alarm goes off at 5:15.  I hate those nights.
Good luck
Mickey

My Allergist recommended the same but didn't work for me.  My cardiologist said he didn't know anything that would work without possible side effects and if he did he would take it himself.  So I am going to try the hypnosis and hope mind over matter will do the trick.  If not I guess I'll to move and live on a boat.  I always seem to sleep when on a boat.

Don't give up before you try a sleep doctor. I found out I have Restless leg Syndrome and GERD so badly that I was waking up every 4!!!! minutes to swallow all night long. Also, couldn't keep my legs still even when I was "asleep" and was keeping myself aroused when I wasn't awake swallowing! Now, medication takes care of both of those and I am sleeping better than I have in years. Good luck!

Did you have a sleep study before your surgery? Sounds like one would be helpful for you. I have Ambien that I take sometimes but my husband tells me it makes me really wierd. I say stange things and don't remember anything in the morning.
before my sleep apnea was diagnosed I was so sleep deprived. It feels miserable. I hope something works for you soon.

I have similar problems now and then.  Most times I am ready top sleep and barely remember touching my head to ym pillow.  I wear a C-PAP machine m,ask (yes, I still hate it after 14 years) but that creates "white noise" and when I do fall asleep, I am out cold and little wakes me up, which os why JB comes into the bedroom, when I sleep late, to see if Im still alive.

HOWEVER, like last night, I have the occasional issue.  I was exhausted last night and went to bed before 11pm...highly unusual for me.  I slept for three hours and woke up at 2 am..wide awake. I lay there another hour, trying to relax and go back to sleep before I gave up and slipped downstairs.

Then I found my CD..it's a relaxation subliminal by Dr Feir Johnson.

I was asleep in minutes. YES! HYPNOSIS helps!
